Paper Piecing, A New Trend

What is everyone talking about when they use the term paper piecing?  Well, the new trend that everyone is talking about is called paper piecing.  In order to create a paper piecing you can use clip-art coloring book picture or your own artwork to create separate pieces. You then fit these pieces together using separate colors of card stock or other paper to make an image.

If you do not want to create your own pattern you can buy a pattern at the store or down load them off of the Internet.   You would then take the pattern cut it out  trace around each piece on different colors of card stock  and put it together.

When you are paper piecing you have the ability to create something to match your theme with out searching all over trying to find the perfect die-cut, sticker or cutout.  Before I heard of paper piecing I would try to buy things that would fit with the picture I had at home.  I would stock up on theme packs, sticker and other things that I might be able to use.  I would end up with extras that didn’t quite work or fit the project.  I felt that it wasn’t very cost effective.

Paper piecing saves you time looking for the perfect theme.  It also saves you money because you are not buying things that you don’t end up using.   Card stock and other paper is a lot less expensive than other items you might have spent money on.

One of the things I have liked best about paper piecing is making personalized cards.  As I started looking at the scrapbooks and other paper crafts, I fell in love with the idea of personalizing cards for birthdays, graduation, and anniversaries.  I can make a card to match my thoughts about the person I am giving it to.   They are always so excited to see what I will come up with next, and to be honest it is fun to create original work!

Paper piecing is great for personalizing your scrapbooks.  If you have a picture of a little boy with blond hair swimming in a pool with a red swimming suit, you can create a little boy exactly like him out of card stock to decorate your page.  This pulls the colors out of the pictures and makes it look like your picture and page were made for each other!  In all of the contests I have seen, those that have added paper piecing to their projects are generally the winners.

The great thing about Scrapola.com is that we have done a lot of the work for you.  You don’t have to draw your own pictures or search for just the right cut out.  We will make it for you or you can find it on our website.  It has saved me a lot of money and added a personal touch to my scrapbooks.  I still use other products, but for the most part I love the look and effect a personalized paper piecing can have.
